As the new year commences and we get ready to take on new projects around the house, we are excited to list some of what the top paint companies are forecasting to be the hottest new colors for 2019. These colors can surely set the tone around your home for what lies ahead in the new year. So, before you pick up that paint brush, check out these choices.
Benjamin Moore Paints announced “Metropolitan AF-690”, a stylish gray with cool undertones, as its 2019 Color of the Year. Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Director of Strategic Design Intelligence, describes Metropolitan as “a color in the neutral spectrum that references a contemplative state of mind and design. Not arresting nor aggressive, this understated yet glamorous gray creates a soothing, impactful common ground.” Whether pairing it with other neutrals or something bolder such as navy blue or hunter green, this one is a winner.
Sherwin Williams Paints went with an earthier hue for its 2019 Color of the Year. Cavern Clay SW 7701, described as a “warm terracotta color with ancient, elemental roots,” is a “nod to midcentury modern style, but with the soul of the American Southwest, which together create the desert modern aesthetic.” Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams stated that “Cavern Clay embodies renewal, simplicity and free-spirited, bohemian flair.” Because of its “outdoor feel”, this color pairs well with different textures such as leather and wood accents, or a jute or sisal rug.
Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year is a bold one. A warm, peachy orange known as Living Coral 16-1546 is at the top of the list for this year. While this color makes a great statement for placing accents throughout the home, some may embrace it on a larger scale. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute stated that, “there’s just something about the color that feels earthbound and welcoming, optimistic and intimate.”
Lastly, Behr’s 2019 Color of the Year is perhaps, our favorite of the bunch. Blueprint S470-5, is a warm, mid-tone blue, which the company says, “it’s meant to signify authenticity, confidence, and timelessness.” Erika Woelfel, Behr’s vice president of color and creative services, called the color an “instant classic” and one which “symbolizes our desire for positive energy, stability, and confidence, both at home and out in the world.” Such a great color, we are inspired!
